Raks Sarama is a tribal-style Middle Eastern dance troupe based in the Oregon communities of Salem and Silverton. |
This colorful, high-energy troupe draws on cultures from India and the Middle East as well as northern Africa and Spain in their rhythms and choreography. |
Founded in 2002 by artist and dancer Barbara Beausoleil, the group of 11 dancers has dazzled audiences from Portland to Eugene with their unique style of folk/gypsy/bellydance fusion. |
The dancers of the troupe are supported and inspired by their talented musicians, Raks Zealots. |
In addition to
festive dancing, powerful drumming, and exotic costumes, audiences respond
to the love and connection the troupe has for each other.
| The joy this group exudes spills out to the audience and spectators are swept up in the vibrant energy of the dance. | ![]() |
